IT is at the heart of their organization with more than 30 different product teams and 10 different platform teams that are trying to build the best products & services for their customers.

Their presence in important financial centers like Amsterdam, Chicago, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo Hong Kong, London, Sao Paulo, Frankfurt and Iasi, allows them to effectively serve clients worldwide and maintain close proximity to their diverse customer base.

Every year, ABN AMRO Clearing organizes the IT Graduate Program for new talents to enter the organization through an exciting program. It allows you to discover different aspects of the organization and learn about the Clearing business.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Program 1: Legacy-to-Future Technology Bridge (Romania)

Location: Iasi (Hybrid, 3 days in the office, 2 days from home)

Start date: June 2026

Contract type: fulltime

Program duration: 2 years

THE ROLE INVOLVES:

Our partner's clients increasingly rely on real-time insights into their data and positions. As financial markets evolve rapidly, it is very important that they provide them with the most up-to-date information while ensuring the highest standard of user experience.

This brings us to one of the core applications in their landscape – "MICS", which supports a wide range of critical functions including Reference Data management, Trade Processing, Cash Bookings, Interest calculations, Corporate Actions, Fees, Tax processing, and more.

Originally built in 1994 using Synon/2E, a development tool introduced in 1974 and once widely adopted for IBM i (AS/400) platforms. The application has served as a robust and reliable backbone for their clearing operations.

However, as Synon usage declines industry-wide, modernizing the codebase has become vital. This is why they are now transitioning toward RPGLE Free Format, strengthening both long-term maintainability and future scalability.

To support this modernization journey and further evolve their core clearing systems, they are looking for new colleagues to join their team!

As part of their Core Clearing Services team, you will play an important role in enhancing their core clearing applications on the IBM I platform using a combination of RPGLE Free Format and Synon/CA2E technologies. Your contributions will help ensure the continued stability of one of the most trusted systems in the Clearing domain while driving forward its evolution to meet future business needs.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop across both traditional and modern technology landscapes:

• Gain hands-on experience across both sides of the technology spectrum, from working with a stable, business-critical legacy IBM i (Synon & RPGLE) system to contributing to its modernization through RPGLE Free Format and modern engineering practices.

• Work in an environment ideal for newcomers, where you will learn how traditional enterprise systems operate while also engaging with modern software engineering practices, including automation, cloud-driven tooling, AI-assisted development, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Learn to bridge the gap between legacy and modern platforms by participating in application modernization initiatives, code refactoring, and implementing new integration models such as REST APIs.

• Grow within a team that values continuous learning and provides opportunities to build expertise in IBM i, automated testing, and AI-enabled productivity tools, helping you develop into a versatile engineer.

• In addition to the above, you will travel to their Amsterdam office for a couple of months in a year for training and close collaboration with the onsite team.

Responsibilities:

• Learn the fundamentals of Free-Format RPG, RPG LE, and the legacy platform that underpins our clearing services.

• Work closely with senior engineers, chapter leads, and product owners across Romania and the Netherlands.

• Contribute to our AI driven code conversion pipeline, validating, reviewing, and improving generated output.

• Analyze legacy functionality and help ensure functional parity in the modernized environment.

• Support testing, debugging, deployment preparation, and continuous improvement of modernization workflows.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A recent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or similar is a mandatory requirement.

• Proven experience in software development (preferably in Python) – it can be demonstrated through a relevant university degree or equivalent professional experience and portfolio.

• Strong interest in learning both legacy systems and modern programming paradigms (also mandatory).

• A strong interest in automated testing and deployment practices is highly appreciated.

• Analytical mindset with good problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in an international environment.

• Very good English communication skills.

• Basic programming experience (Java, C++, C#, Python, or similar) would be an important nice to have.

• Interest in AI assisted software development.

You don't need to be an expert yet - they will teach you. They look for potential, passion, and curiosity.

Program 2: General IT Graduates Program

Location: Iasi (Hybrid, 3 days in the office, 2 days from home)

Start date: September 2026

Contract type: fulltime

Program duration: 1 year

THE ROLE INVOLVES:

Are you ready to start your career as an IT Developer? Do you want to be part of the global IT revamp Clearing is going through? Then the IT Talent Program offered by our partner might be just what you are looking for.

Thanks to their global network and proximity to the market infrastructure, you will serve the best trading firms on four continents.

Once you join you enter a 12-month program. In the first weeks you will spend time designing your personal program together with your manager. Depending on your preferences you will be working in Amsterdam, Chicago or Sydney.

Besides this personal program you will be enrolled in the global Clearing Talent Program training to get to know our partner's business in more detail and work on your personal development.

This 4-week training is facilitated by experts, professional trainers and ABN AMRO Clearing managers. As such you automatically become part of an international group of graduates allowing you to build a global network. A great start to your ABN AMRO Clearing career.

Also, as part of the Program, you are offered 3 rotations to different departments from the organization. In one of these rotations, you'll have the opportunity to work in one of our partner's global offices for 3 months.

Responsibilities:

• You will take full responsibility for your own assignments.

• You could, for instance be working in a software development team to develop the client interfacing services, develop the competitive risk management application which supports clients to keep a healthy business or find opportunities to automate processes.

• You will start working in your "home" country and take assignments in Sydney, Chicago, London or Amsterdam.

• You'll get a chance to experience all aspects of IT, work with multiple software development teams to really understand the business needs.

• After 12 months, you'll be ready to start in your well-considered role at ABN AMRO Clearing.
